Connect your system to AvaTax Update

After you create your initial company profile, the next step is to connect your business application or system to AvaTax Update through an integration, software that enables the flow of transactions to AvaTax Update. 

Before you begin

  • If someone else in your company is connecting your system to AvaTax Update, make sure they’ve been added to AvaTax Update as an account administrator. For more information, see add users and assign permissions
  • Some business systems need just a username and a password, while others need a username, password, account number, and license key. For specific installation instructions, find your business application or system

Steps

  1. If you already have your license key, go to step 3.
  2. Get your license key.
    1. Check for your license key an email from Avalara. If you can't find the existing license key or need to create a new one, Go to Settings > License and API Keys.  
      The Avalara Account page opens.
    2. Click Generate License Key.
      A warning displays. If this is your first time setting up AvaTax Update, you can ignore the warning.

      Here's why you see the warning...

      If you use a license key to connect to other systems, generating a new one breaks the connection to those systems. To restore the connection, enter the new license key in each system.

    3. Click Yes, Generate a License Key.
      Avalara emails the license key and account information to account administrators. There is one license key for all systems associated with your account.
    4. Download, print, copy and paste, or write down your license key and keep it for future reference.
      For security reasons, we don't keep license key information. You may need your license key when you update or add other business systems.
  3. Find your integration.
    1. In AvaTax Update, go to Settings > Integrations.
      The software you're registered to use with AvaTax Update is listed here.  
    2. Depending on your integration, do one of the following:
      • Select See Connector Versions, select the most recent version, and then select Download. 
      • If you don't see a Download button, select Help and Support for detailed instructions. You may need to log in to your business application website before you see help documentation. 
  4. Follow the instructions to set up AvaTax Update.
    • If you downloaded a connector from the Integrations tab, open the file and follow the installation wizard.
      Keep your license key on hand. You'll need to enter it to connect your business application to AvaTax Update.
