Change advanced company settings

This article applies to:AvaTax

Adjust the finer controls for your company including rounding, freight, and the default country and currency.

Steps

  1. In AvaTax, go to Settings > All AvaTax Settings.
  2. Next to Advanced Company Settings, select Manage.
  3. Select the settings you want to apply to your company.
    • Control rounding
AvaTax automatically rounds calculations for each jurisdiction and then distributes any difference to line items. Turn this off to round at each line item instead.
    • Freight/handling dependency
Freight tax is normally calculated based on the destination address. Turn this on and choose how you want freight taxed for your company.
    • Default country
Select which country to use for tax transaction calculations.
    • Default currency
Select the currency you want to use for tax calculations. This is for reporting purposes only. AvaTax does not convert currency.
  4. Select your Tax code handling preferences for how Avalara should handle tax codes and tariff codes for items you sell.
    1. Select whether to use Avalara tax codes or the tax code on the invoice. You'll have two options:
      • If there is an Avalara tax code mapped in AvaTax, prioritize that tax code over one passed on the transaction when calculating tax. (DEFAULT)
      • If there is an Avalara tax code passed on the transaction, prioritize that tax code over one mapped in AvaTax when calculating tax.
    2. Select whether to use the tariff code set in AvaTax or to use the tariff code on the invoice. You'll have two options:
      • If there is a tariff code mapped in AvaTax, prioritize that tariff code over one passed on the transaction when calculating tax.
      • If there is a tariff code passed on the transaction, prioritize that tariff code over one mapped in AvaTax when calculating tax. (DEFAULT)
  5. Select Save Settings.
