What is the Avalara Licensing service for businesses?

Overview

Avalara Licensing helps companies secure sales tax registrations and business licenses (state, county and local) required to operate their business within a specific jurisdiction.

Businesses engaging in sales, leases or rentals of most goods, as well as business that supply taxable services, are generally required to register for a sales tax account and/or a business license (unless specifically exempt) with the proper jurisdictions. Avalara Licensing can provide a turnkey service that includes completion of all forms, submission of all forms, and remittance of fees for all online applications, and procurement of licenses for these accounts.

What will I receive from Avalara Licensing and what are my next steps?

You will receive an email from info@businesslicenses.com directing you to click on a link which will direct you to BusinessLicenses.com where you will be asked to provide more information about your business.  


If you’ve purchased Avalara Licensing Form Finder, you will be able to download your blank applications immediately after answering the questions about your business.  

If you’ve purchased an Avalara Sales Tax Registration product or an Avalara Business Licensing and Sales Tax Registration product, then once you’ve completed the questions about your business, you will receive an email from info@businesslicenses.com acknowledging completion of the questionnaire.  Within a week of completing the questionnaire, you will receive an email from info@businesslicenses.com informing you that your applications are complete and to click on a link to view completed online applications and download paper applications for submission.

Note:  

  • For domestic/US entity companies registering for sales tax in US states, the deliverable is the completed registration with the registration number and DOR login info if applicable. These registrations are completed online.
  • For local sales tax registrations and state sales tax registrations for non-domestic/US entities, some paper applications are necessary depending on the jurisdiction. The deliverable would be a completed form the customer would have to sign and forward to the tax authority.  These requirements are set by the jurisdiction and subject to change.
