Transaction and Service Types
AvaTax for Communications uses a system of numbers to represent the Transaction Types and Service Types for the service you wish to tax. Passing valid combinations of transaction service type pairs provides AFC part of the information necessary to produce the appropriate taxes for a specific jurisdiction. These tables list the valid pairs and provide a primary usage description for each one. AvaTax for Communications (AFC) doesn't return accurate taxation if improper transaction service type pairs are selected.
The AFC Product Catalog Mapping Worksheet is available to help map your existing products and services to the AvaTax for Communications Transaction and Service Types.
There are a few categories of Transaction and Service Types:
- Telecom - these Transaction/Service pairs are found in the AFC Telecom engine. Telecom Transaction/Service pairs are only available for use within the United States and Canada.
- Telecom and SAU - these Transaction/Service pairs are only available for use within the United States, and are only available to Avalara AvaTax for Communications SaaS Pro (REST) v2 and Avalara AvaTax for Communications SaaS Standard users. The Telecom and SAU Transaction/Service pairs are not available for use with Avalara AvaTax for Communications License or AvaTax for Communications Viewer (Telecom). Using these Transaction/Service pairs in those environments will result in an error.
- International - these Transaction/Service pairs are found in the AFC Telecom engine and are only suitable for use with international jurisdictions. International Transaction/Service pairs are not available for use within the United States or Canada. See our International Mapping Guidelines for more information on mapping for international jurisdictions.
