When reporting a terminal operator taxpayer type, most jurisdictions require inventory reporting.  The software is configured to each jurisdiction's filing requirements.

Report ending inventory

  1. Enter the inventory on a schedule code beginning with INT with the appropriate description.  This code is internal to the Avalara software.
    • If a specific schedule code used by the jurisdiction is used, the inventory records entered on the INT schedule will populate the correct form.
      • EXAMPLE: Enter NY TOR inventory amount on INT03:Ending Physical Inventory.  When you run generate the return, it will populate form FT-941.

Report beginning inventory

There are 2 ways to report beginning inventory.

  1. Enter amount of beginning inventory on a schedule.
    • If a specific schedule code used by the jurisdiction is used, the inventory records entered on the INT schedule will populate the correct form.
      • EXAMPLE: Enter AL TOR inventory amount on INT02:Actual Beginning Physical Inventory.  When you run generate the return, it will populate line 1 of the Motor Fuel Terminal Operator Monthly Report.
  2. Carry over ending inventory from the previous month's filing.
    • The software automatically copies the ending inventory from the previous filing to the beginning inventory of the current filing.
    • The previous filing period must be marked as Filed.
    • The eFile create has a tab that allows you to choose to include beginning inventory if the jurisdiction allows a choice.
    • You can also set the inventory to copy each time you run the return.
      • Click Maintenance > Taxpayer Preferences.
      • Select the return from the grid row.
      • Set Enable Copy Inventory to Yes.

Review inventory summary

You can review the records entered into inventory.

  1. Click Reporting > Terminal Operator Summary Report.
  2. Select the criteria for the report and click Generate Report.
    • The default selections reflect the last terminal operator session you visited.

  3. The report will display on the page.  Select a format and click Export to save a printable version.
    • This report is internal to the Avalara software.
