Step 5. Monthly compliance check

Avalara will perform a compliance check every month and will ask you to provide copies of documents that relate to your recent transactions. These must be provided by the end of the month. Types of documents requested may include:

  • Purchase invoices
  • Sales invoices/credit notes
  • Cross-border transfer of goods documents
  • Import documents

What documents do I need to provide as part of the compliance check?

A business registered in France transfers their own goods from China (or another non-EU country)

Sales invoice or credit note with domestic VAT

A business registered in France sells goods to a buyer in France – the buyer can be a business or final consumer

  • Invoice or credit note

Sales invoice or credit note with VAT exemption

A business registered in France sells goods to a buyer in France, when the goods are exempt from VAT, or the buyer is exempt from paying VAT – the buyer can be a business or final consumer

Sales invoice or credit note for intracommunity B2B

A business registered in France sells goods to a VAT registered buyer in Spain (or other EU country)
