Set the Tax Schedule and Exempt Customers

Sales tax information assigned to the customer or address record determines how tax is calculated for transactionsHoverTT.png created for them. Learn how to set the sales tax schedule and exempt customers. You can set the tax schedule and exempt your customers for their primary address or for their ship-to address. Both steps are outlined below.

Set tax schedule for customer's primary address

Follow these steps to set the tax schedule for the customer's primary address:
 

  1. On the right-side of the main Customer Maintenance tab, next to Tax Schedule, click the Magnifying Glass.

  2. In the Tax Schedule List dialog, click AVATAX to calculate sales tax for this customer.
  3. Click Select.

  4. Click Accept.

Set tax schedule for customer's ship-to address

Follow these steps to set the tax schedule for the customer's ship-to address:
 

  1. On the bottom of the Customer Ship-To Address Maintenance tab, next to Tax Schedule, click the Magnifying Glass.

  2. In the Tax Schedule List dialog, click AVATAX in order for AvaTax to generate sales tax calculation for this customer's ship-to address.
  3. Click Select.

  4. Click Accept.

The tax schedule and exemptions associated with a customer ship to address can be found at the bottom of the Customer Ship-To Address Maintenance window. 

Exempt using the customer's primary address

Follow these steps to exempt customers using their primary address:

 

  1. On the right-side of the main Customer Maintenance tab, next to Tax Schedule, click Exemptions...

  2. In the Tax Exemptions Maintenance dialog, enter the exemption numbers at the City, County, Local City, Local County, and State levels.
  3. Click OK.

  4. Click Accept.

Exempt using the customer's ship-to address

Follow these steps to set the tax schedule for the customer's ship-to address:
 

  1. On the bottom of the Customer Ship-To Address Maintenance tab, next to Tax Schedule, click Exemptions...

  2. In the Tax Exemptions Maintenance dialog box, type the exemption numbers at the City, County, Local City, Local County, and State levels.
  3. Click OK and then click Accept.
