Install and Configure Avalara AvaTax for CS-Cart

Now that you've activated your AvaTax account and set up your tax profile, it's time to install and configure your integration. At the end of this process, you'll send a test transaction to confirm that AvaTax is calculating tax the way you expect. After running a successful test, you'll be able to start using AvaTax!


To get the latest package download link, you can either:

  1. Go to the Admin Console > Home > Get Started > Download and Install Your Integration Software section and download the AvaTax for CS-Cart zip file; or
  2. Download the AvaTax for CS-Cart zip file and unzip the files in respective folders or contact the Support team for assistance. 

Download your integration

To connect your accounting software to AvaTax, download your integration software. 

  1. In the Admin Console, on the Home tab, click Get Started.
  2. In the Download and Install Your Integration Software section, click Download Software
  3. In the Download Your AvaTax Connector Software window, click the arrow next to the name of your software, and then download the latest version of your integration. If the file isn't available for download, clear your browser's cache, and log back into the Admin Console.
  4. Save the .zip file somewhere on your computer that's easy to find.
  5. Right-click the .zip file and extract the installation folder or file (.exe or .pdf or .msi). 

Install your integration

To install AvaTax for CS-Cart, follow these steps:

  1. Using FTP, upload all files and folders from the AvaTax for CS-Cart zip file to the root folder of your CS-Cart store.
  2. Complete the code changes mentioned in the code change document available in the downloaded AvaTax for CS-Cart zip file.
  3. In the CS-Cart Administration section, on the Add-ons menu, click Manage Add-ons.
  4. To the right of Avalara AvaTax, click Install.


  1. At the upper right on the CS-Cart toolbar, on the Add-ons menu, click Manage Add-ons.


  2. In the Add-ons pane, to the right of Avalara AvaTax, click the Settings icon.
  3. On the Accounts Settings page:
    1. Type the credentials provided by Avalara for these fields:
      • Account ID
      • License Key
    2. Select the Service URL.
    3. Next to Make a test call to the AvaTax, click Test connection.


    4. On successful verification, a list of associated company names is populated in the Company Name field. Select the Company Name to display the associated Company Code.
    5. To enable tax calculation, for Enable AvaTax tax calculation, click Yes.
    6. To send the UPC instead of the product code, for Send UPC code to AvaTax, select Yes to send the UPC instead of the product code. If you select No, the product code is sent to AvaTax by default.
    7. For Save Transaction to AvaTax, click Yes.
    8. For Enable AvaTax address validation, click Yes.
    9. For Enable Log: Click Yes if you want to start generating Avalara logs in the ..\app\addons\avatax_tax_calculation\ava-logs folder.

      Ava-Connect-Log-dd-mm-yyyy.txt (eg. Ava-Connect-Log-27-08-2015.txt) is the integration response log

    10. To access the AvaTax Dashboard link, click Click here for AvaTax Dashboard
    11. To use AvaTax Tax Profile Assistant to set up your tax profile, click Click Here for AvaTax Tax Profile Assistant.
    12. Click Save.
