What's new How it impacts you How to respond
A new product called CertExpress is released. CertExpress is an application for exempt purchasers who need to simplify the way they store and deliver tax documents to vendors
  • You previously collected online documents from your customers using the CertCapture web portal. CertExpress replaces the Web portal functionality. Your customers can still submit documents online. They'll use CertExpress to submit them.
  • Updated template tags used to personalize cover letters to include CertExpress access and login instructions. Here's a table of changes.
  • Familiarize yourself with CertExpress (formerly web portal)
  • Learn about new template tags. Make sure your template tags automatically updated.
The CertCapture exemption certificate library is updated


 
  • This impacts all CertCapture users
  • Added new exemption certificate templates to the CertCapture certificate library 
  • CertCapture now logs changes to the exemption matrix 
  • You don't need to do anything. Your form library updates automatically. Be aware that new forms are available for use.
The CertCapture certificate creation wizard is now mobile-friendly
  • You don't need to do anything. This change happens automatically.
CertCapture REST API users can now create and manage their own passwords

  • If an CertCapture administrator added you as an API user, you can create and manage your own password now

  • CertCapture release 6.6, tentatively scheduled for release March 2017
  • This release will happen during a planned maintenance window outside of US business hours. Watch your CertCapture Message Center for maintenance window details.

A new product called CertExpress will be released. CertExpress is an application for exempt purchasers who need to simplify the way they store and deliver tax documents to vendors

Requests and campaigns sent from CertCapture will be impacted by the introduction of CertExpress

  • This impacts you if you collect tax forms from customers using the web portal
  • Web portal is being upgraded to the CertExpress online submission tool
  • When you send a document request to a customer, their instructions for logging in to CertExpress (formerly web portal) will be simplified
  • Template tags used in cover letters are being updated. Here's a table of changes and instructions for what to do with them
  • Familiarize yourself with the new CertExpress (formerly web portal) access instructions when available
  • Learn about new template tags. Make sure your template tags automatically update when CertCapture 6.6 is released
The CertCapture exemption matrix is being updated
  • This impacts all CertCapture users
  • The exemption matrix and form libraries are being updated, based on research of new state rulings
  • CertCapture will track and log exemption matrix changes going forward
  • If you're a CertCapture Pro user, you don't need to do anything. These changes will happen automatically.
  • If you're a CertCapture Enterprise user and have never made changes to your exemption matrix, you don't need to do anything. These changes will happen automatically.
  • If you're a CertCapture Enterprise user and have made changes to the default exemption matrix, your custom exemption matrix will stay in place. You can either keep your custom settings and continue to update them as needed, or you can adjust your settings to adopt the new CertCapture default exemption matrix.
The CertCapture certificate creation wizard will resize to display nicely on any device
  • You don't need to do anything. This change will happen automatically.
CertCapture REST APIs will have updated account management features
  • This impacts CertCapture REST API users
  • You'll have a new way to create, delete, and manage user accounts
  • You don't need to do anything. This change will happen automatically.
CertCapture for Retail settings are expanding
  • This impacts you if you use CertCapture for Retail
  • You'll be able to customize the information you collect from customers as they make purchases
  • You can add required Terms and Conditions that have to be completed before a purchaser can submit a tax form
  • You can create a welcome letter that displays once a purchaser has submitted their first tax form
  • You don't need to do anything. These options will become available automatically
  • If you plan to collect custom data from purchasers, decide the type of data so you can adjust settings when CertCapture 6.6 is released
  • If you plan to have customers fill out Terms and Conditions, or will send them a welcome letter after their first purchase, plan to adjust settings when CertCapture 6.6 is released
New application security features will be implemented
  • You won't notice the difference, but CertCapture will be more secure than ever
  • You don't need to do anything. These changes will happen automatically.

December 2, 2016

  • CertCapture release 6.6, tentatively scheduled for release March 3, 2017
  • The CertCapture certificate creation wizard will automatically resize to fit any viewing screen. This will impact you if you use CertCapture for Retail, eCommerce SDK, or have your customers fill out online certificates using the Web Portal.
  • There will be changes to the default exemption matrix and form libraries, based on research of new state rulings and government initiated form updates. In some cases exempt reason categories within the exemption matrix will change.
  • New application security features will be implemented
  • Expanded exemption certificate functionality is being added to AvaTax. This added functionality will be available for purchase as a product extension. If you opt into these new features, you will be able to:
    • Request exemption certificates from your customers within the AvaTax application
    • Process customers' documents and attach them to customer records within AvaTax
    • Store digital copies of your customers' exemption certificates in AvaTax
  • A new product called CertExpress will be released
    • CertExpress will provide a way for consumers to store any compliance documents needed to transact business. CertExpress users can maintain public and private libraries of exemption certificates, excise licenses, and/or withholding forms.
    • CertCapture will be able to access CertExpress users' document libraries. Forms stored in CertExpress public libraries will be available for download on-demand. Forms stored in private libraries can be transferred to CertCapture users upon request.
  • For specifics, participate in the new feature webinar in early January. When the webinar is scheduled, you can find registration information in the CertCapture message center.
