Resale Certificate ST-8A

Required fields:

  1. Name of seller.
  2. Items sold, leased, etc.
  3. Name of purchaser, including street address, city and state.
  4. Purchaser’s SC Tax ID number or State and ID number if not registered in SC.
  5. Signature of purchaser.

Exempt Certificate ST-8 

  • This is a single use form

 

Required fields:

  1. Name of seller.
  2. Items sold, leased, etc.
  3. Name of purchaser, including street address, city and state.
  4. Purchaser’s SC Tax ID number or State and ID number if not registered in SC.
  5. Signature of purchaser.

Notes:

  • If the purchaser is exempt due to non-resale reason, they must send in the state issued Manufacturer’s Exemption Certificate. If they are exempt and do not have the state issued letter they may use ST-8 which will apply to a single purchase.
  • A valid SC retail license number will be in the following format NNN-NNNNN-N, for example 040-12345-6. The first 3 digits is the county code, which range from 001-046, the next is the company number and cannot begin with an eight. Federal ID numbers and Social Security numbers are not acceptable in this field.
  • South Carolina Code section 12-36-950 documents the requirements for sales tax exemption certificates. Section 12-36-2120 documents exemption from sales tax.
  • Sales to the federal government are exempt. Sales to state government are taxable unless they have a specific exemption.
  • SC accepts the MTC form without any qualifications.
