Install and Configure Avalara AvaTax for PrestaShop

This article applies to:Avalara AvaTax for PrestaShop

After you activate AvaTax Update and set up your company profile, install and configure AvaTax Update for your accounting software. During configuration, customize your setup to fit your unique business needs for things like:

  • Tax calculation settings for various tax types
  • Exemption settings if you have exempt customers
  • Product taxability settings

Alter these settings when your business needs change.

Install AvaTax for PrestaShop

Use information in the following sections to download and install AvaTax Update for PrestaShop.


To connect your accounting software to AvaTax Update, download your integration software. 

  1. In Avalara Account, go to Connectors.
  2. Click the arrow next to the name of your software to download the connector you need.
  3. In your Downloads folder, right-click the .zip file and extract the installation folder or file (.exe or .pdf or .msi). 

Install AvaTax for PrestaShop

To install the AvaTax Update for PrestaShop package:

  1. Open the installation folder you downloaded from AvaTax Update.
  2. Copy Avalaratax folder in \\Root directory\<Prestashop folder>\Modules\.  
  3. Log in to PrestaShop, and then go to Modules and Services > Modules > Administration.
  4. On the List of Modules page, go to Modules List, type AvaTax in the Keywords field, and then click Search.
  5. Choose AvaTax for Prestashop, and then click Install.
  6. Click Proceed with the installation. After a successful installation, a Module(s) installed successfully message displays.

Configure AvaTax Update for PrestaShop

Once you've installed the AvaTax Update for PrestaShop, configure your company settings.

  1. Log in to PrestaShop and go to Modules and Services > Modules > Administration.
  2. On the List of Modules page, go to Modules List, type AvaTax in the Keywords field, and then click Search.
  3. Choose AvaTax for Prestashop, and then click Configure.
  4. On the Connection page::  
    1. Fill in the following, and then click Test Connection:
      Field Action
      • Account Number
      • License Key
      Use the information provided in an email from Avalara (sent to the email account you used to activate your AvaTax account)
      AvaTax Environment Make a selection based on your account type
    2. Select the correct company from the AvaTax Company list, and then click Save.
  5. On the Options page, fill in the following, and then click Save
    Field Action
    Optional: Validate Customer Address Select to enable customer address validationHoverTT.png using AvaTax Update for PrestaShop. The status of this option doesn't affect the address validation for default origin address and doesn't occur before tax calculations.
    Enable tax calculation Select YES to enable sales tax calculation for your transactions.
    Optional: Return address validation results in upper case Select YES to return the address validation results in all capital letters (USPS format).
    Optional: Enable logging We don't recommend changing these settings unless advised by Avalara Support. Select YES to enable transaction logging for AvaTax Update, which can be helpful when troubleshooting transactions.
    Default FR Code Select the default freight code for the shipping lines item.
    Optional: Share session data with AvaTax Select YES to enable and share session logging for AvaTax Update with Avalara Support.
    Default Origin Address Enter the default origin address for the company. This is the storefront address and is used during sales tax calculation for transactions without a valid address. Click Validate and Save to validate the origin address and save it in the correct format.
    Default AvaTax Actions This section lists the AvaTax Update actions triggered based on the status of an order.
