  • Administrators can now set users as inactive, in order to disable users without deleting them from the account
  • The user list under Manage Users can now be filtered to show only active or inactive users

Changed

  • The user interface used to download filed returns and payment confirmations has been improved with a dropdown that lets you choose between downloading filed returns and payment confirmations, ACH trace IDs, or both
  • The same date can now be used for the starting and ending dates when creating an exemption, to allow for single-day exemptions
  • The exempt customers export is now based on the Sales Exemption Certificate Report, which has more detailed information than the old export functionality and no limit to the number of customers that can be exported in a single download
  • When creating a new exemption, the country form now only contains the United States and Canada, as those countries are the only ones supported by AvaTax Exemptions. If you need to store exemption certificates in other countries, consider looking into Avalara CertCapture.
  • Default Arizona tax type is now Sales or Seller's Use Tax.

  • Fixed an issue on transactions where This Line Item Has Its Own Origin/Destination Address was remaining checked after you unchecked it and saved the transaction
  • Fixed an issue where tax was calculated on the total amount when you specified that tax was included in the total amount and calculated tax on a transaction before saving it. The tax calculation was correct after the transaction was saved.
  • Fixed an issue where information was displayed in the wrong columns on the Sales Tax Document Line Export report
  • Fixed an issue where you got an error if you tried to create a child company

  • When you select Where You Collect Tax, the tax type now defaults to Sales or Sellers Use Tax for states that have sellers use tax. You can change this to Sales Tax from the Tax Type dropdown. For states that don't have sellers use tax, the tax type defaults to Sales Tax and you can't change it. The states that have sellers use tax are:

    • Arkansas

  • You can now choose a dependent form when more than one option exists for returns that have dependent forms
  • The message that appears when you save a return that's missing required information now tells you which fields are missing information

  • Fixed an issue where the total sales tax accrual was not shown correctly for quarterly or other non-monthly returns on the Schedule and Approve Returns page
  • Fixed an issue where you had to enter a tax code to create a tax rule

  • Changed the wording of the exemption certificate handling options under Advanced Account Settings so it's clear what they do. These options are now selected using radio buttons instead of a dropdown list so you can easily see the options that are available
  • When you download the Avalara tax codes from within AvaTax Update, you now get an up-to-date list that matches what's in the Avalara Help Center

  • Tax Return Filing reports are now only available for companies which are separate reporting entities. Companies that aren't separate reporting entities report taxes through their parent company
  • Improved the reports search to display results in order of the closest match instead of the exact match only
  • Changed some of the Returns menu items and page names to be more clear about what the pages are for:
    • This Month's Return Filing is now Schedule and Approve Returns

  • The Approve and Rebuild buttons no longer appear when you view returns in future months on the Schedule and Approve Returns page

  • In Where You Collect Tax, when auto-manage is turned on for a region, you can see and edit the region, but you can't edit the local jurisdictions. The local jurisdictions inherit the start and end dates set for the region
  • Moved the Default Country field from the Company Details page to the Advanced Company Settings page. The address on a new transaction defaults to the country set under Advanced Company Settings

  • Fixed an issue where you were prompted to submit a Power of Attorney when you already had one
  • Fixed an issue where the Power of Attorney form wasn't showing up on the Funding Power of Attorney page

  • Added the Importer of Record default for countries other than the U.S. in Where You Collect Tax. This default is used when the Importer of Record isn't specified on a transaction with a destination address in a country outside the U.S.
  • Added the ability to import customers and exemption certificates. On the Your Exempt Customers page, click Import Customers and Exemptions to download the import toolkit and import your customers and exemption certificates.
  • Added the ability to export custom tax rules to an .xlsx or .csv file. To export your custom tax rules, click Export Custom Tax Rules on the All Custom Tax Rules page.

  • Added a Verify button to improve the verification process for the e-file username and password when you're scheduling a return
