Manage Custom Tax Rules

Edit a tax rule, delete a tax rule or simply change the end date. Learn how to add tax rules.

Change the end date for a tax rule

Follow the steps below to change the end date for a tax ruleHoverTT.png .

  1. On the Organization tab, click Custom Tax Rules for a company.
  2. On the Tax Rules screen, click a Tax Rule hyperlink.
  3. On the Edit: Tax Rule screen, Step 1: Jurisdiction Selection, click Next.
  4. On the Edit: Tax Rule screen, Step 2: Details, type or select a new End Date.
  5. Click Finish.

Delete a tax rule

Tax rulesHoverTT.png should not be deleted unless a mistake is made when adding a tax rule. Tax rules that are no longer needed should be expired by changing the end date to a date in the past. Expiring a tax rule retains the information needed to determine how AvaTax processed a transactionHoverTT.png .

  1. On the Organization tab, click Custom Tax Rules for a company.
  2. On the Tax Rules screen, select the check box next to one or more tax rules.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click OK to confirm deletion.

Edit a tax rule

Follow the steps below to edit a tax ruleHoverTT.png and to select new values for the fields.

  1. On the Organization tab, click Custom Tax Rules for a company.
  2. On the Tax Rules screen, click a Tax Rule hyperlink.
  3. On the Edit: Tax Rule screen, Step 1: Jurisdiction Selection, select different values for any of the fields, if desired.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Type, choose or select new values for any of the fields in Step 2: Details, if desired.
  6. Click Finish.
